I was inspired to write Understanding Anxiety when I began to realize that, although there is much talk of anxiety these days; many of my friends and neighbors, as well as my clients, suffered from anxiety without realizing that it was at the root of their problems. They blamed their underachievement and dissatisfaction to lack of talent or deficits in intelligence. Although it is the most prevalent mental health difficulty, anxiety still appears to carry more of a stigma than depression and seems to be taken less seriously. Many consider it a weakness and try to keep their anxiety hidden from others.
